Voice agents: consent is only the beginning
A voice call combines imperfect hearing, personal data and pressure to act fast. The evidence must cover the whole call — not just the transcript.
Set expectations at first contact
Tell callers they are speaking with AI, explain the relevant use of their input and offer a workable path to a person. Recording and other processing need a lawful, contextual basis — the method does not claim that consent is universally required for every processing step.
Plan for mishearing
Test accents, background noise, interruptions, names, numbers and unsupported languages. Important details are read back for confirmation. Low confidence, distress, emergencies and requests for a person trigger escalation — never persuasive repetition.
Approve everything that leaves the call
The agent may prepare a booking or a message, but the draft scheme requires a person to approve the exact recipient, time and content before anything is sent or booked. Records connect transcript references, edits, approval and tool result — with limited retention. Running a voice agent in healthcare or finance?
